Board Members

  • Term from 4 October 2021 - to 3 October 2025

    Richard Ebanks was a partner in a very large dental practice in Chatham for over 30 years. He was involved in all aspects of the business, including personnel, business development and finance. He now continues to work as a dentist in a different practice in North Kent.

    Richard was asked to become a Governor for Brompton Academy by the Local Authority in 2010, as he had taken a keen interest in all aspects of education. As a Trustee, he has been involved in the oversight of the academies within the trust but with an emphasis on the Discipline Panels. Recently he has been asked to Chair the Local Governing Board of Brompton Academy.

    Richard is a local resident and, when time permits, is a keen amateur rugby referee.

  • Term from 5 October 2021 to 4 October 2025

    Margaret Baker Moss is a staff member of UKAT and works in the libraries of both academies within the Trust. Her background is in marketing communications, and she has said that she is “privileged to work every day with the students and use this experience to share with and inform the other Governors.”

    Margaret has worked with the UKAT Governing Body for ten years and has previous experience as a Governor with the Howard Academy Trust for several years. Her role on the Brompton Academy Local Governing Board is as Link Governor for SEND and Staff Governor. Margaret lives in Gillingham, and is committed to supporting education in Medway.

  • Term from 6th November 2024 - 5th November 2028

    Joni Chase is the Partnerships and Programme Manager for Outreach and Widening Participation at the University of Kent. With over 20 years’ experience in the education sector, she has a deep understanding of the challenges young people face and how to implement effective strategies to overcome these.

    Joni is committed to ensuring students from all backgrounds have equitable access to opportunities. She is looking forward to working with Brompton Academy as the Careers Link Governor to ensure young people are inspired, informed and prepared to confidently take their next steps.

  • Term from 30 March 2022 to 29 March 2026

    Akinola Edun has been a Governor at Brompton Academy since April 2022.

    He has over eight years of school governance experience serving in various capacities, from a member of a local primary school Governing Board in Strood, including as Chairs of the full Governing Board and Curriculum, and Vice Chair of the Finance and Building Committee. Akinola has participated in school development plan monitoring, performance appraisal of the executive head teacher, and Ofsted school inspection visits.

    Professionally, Akinola works in the financial services industry as a Strategy Analyst and Information Management professional with expertise in data analytics, operations research and reporting, and process transformation. He intends to use his varied skills to add value to the strategic direction of the Academy to the benefits of all stakeholders, especially our students.

  • Danielle completed her BA (Hons) in English Literature at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and her PGCE at Nottingham University. She has been teaching in Medway schools since 2000. Danielle has taught in a range of different school settings, including selective and non-selective schools, and currently holds the post of Subject Leader for English. She therefore understands the unique community that each Medway school serves and the challenges that our children can face.

    Danielle is an enthusiastic patron of the arts, regularly attending theatre productions and concerts. She also enjoys reading and is passionate about attending her book group.

    Danielle’s own children have attended schools in Medway since 2012 and she looks forward to being more involved in the governance of Brompton Academy.

  • Dr Syed Mehmood Hasan is an accomplished academic and professional having 20+ years’ experience. Currently a Lecturer (Senior) at Royal Holloway University of London, he also teaches part-time at the University of Manchester, Leeds Beckett University, and Middlesex University London.

    His career includes significant roles in funded industrial projects, PhD research supervision, and leadership in innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives like Business Incubation Management. Dr Hasan has developed research policies and priorities, while his roles required extensive communication with students, staff, and external stakeholders, ensuring effective information flow and relationship management. He has published and presented research locally and internationally on diverse topics. His contributions have been recognized with multiple awards and research grants and he also holds multiple fellowships and memberships in prestigious organizations. By applying these skills in his role as a Local Body Governor, he can contribute to creating a positive, effective, and forward-thinking educational environment.

  • Term from 10 February 2022 to 9 February 2026

    Barry Knight has worked for HM Customs & Excise, and then its successor HM Revenue & Customs, since 1988. He was a Governor at New Brompton College for 3 years from 2007 when his children were at the school. Since academisation in 2010, he has been an Associate Trustee where his role has involved being on student discipline panels dealing with exclusions.

    Barry has recently been appointed as a Governor to the Brompton Academy Local Governing Board acting as the ‘critical friend’ in relation to quality and standards. He has been on the Parochial Church Council of St Justus Church, Rochester, since 2003 and was church warden for 6 years from 2013. Barry lives locally to the Academy.

  • Term from 17th July 2024 to 16th July 2028

    Alison has worked in school governance for the last 15 years as a Governance Support Officer.  She has worked with both selective and non-selective schools, maintained schools and academies in both Primary and Secondary schools throughout Medway and beyond.

    Working in such a variety of settings, Alison has a unique insight into the challenges facing schools and can share her experience of how these have been successfully overcome. 

    Alison has a significant amount of experience in supporting Disciplinary Committee’s and is particularly passionate about behaviour and the specific difficulties students with special educational needs face during their educational journey.

    Alison fully supports the UKAT vision to transform the lives of their students and as a Governor will drive challenge through its Local Governing Board to make a difference for all.

  • Term from 29 November 2021 to 28 November 2025

    Toyin Ojedele is a professional member of the BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT) and holds a bachelor’s honours degree in computing from the University of Surrey. She has had a long career at the London Borough of Richmond and Wandsworth predominantly as HR IT Specialist. She has a wealth of HR knowledge and established experience in working with several stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions. Toyin is a Director of her own company. She aims to support and empower parents/carers across the Trust to take control of their lives and to help others to reach their full potential.

    Toyin was voted by parents/carers as the Brompton Academy Parent Trustee in December 2021. She has said that she “holds an exclusive position of having a parental viewpoint and helping to decide the priorities for improving the Academy. It is important to work in partnership with the leaders and the Trust Board to raise standards and improve the outcomes of all children.”

  • Term from 25 April 2023 to 24 April 2027

    Tokunbo Soniyi stands at the forefront of visionary leadership in the realm of education, wielding his expertise and passion to drive meaningful change and innovation in education. As a Senior Education Leader, he has navigated complex challenges with resilience and foresight, leaving an indelible mark on various schools across four countries. He has an unwavering dedication to understanding the complexities of education and he is committed to improving learning outcomes for all students.

    Born into a family that valued education, Tokunbo Soniyi developed a deep appreciation for learning from an early age, graduated with a degree in Medical Biochemistry and his early passion for education laid the foundation for his future career as an educator. Tokunbo Soniyi's ascent to senior leadership roles in education was characterised by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a steadfast commitment to serving the needs of learners and communities in London. He began his career as a dedicated educator in London, teaching Science and mentoring students in inner London secondary schools while actively contributing to curriculum development initiatives.

    As Tokunbo progressed in his career, he assumed increasingly prominent leadership positions and served as the Executive Principal, leveraging his expertise to enact meaningful change at institutional and systemic levels. He also served as a Senior Education Adviser on national education reform. His visionary leadership style, characterised by empathy, collaboration, and innovation, earned him widespread acclaim and recognition as a trailblazer in the field of education.

    As Tokunbo continues to shape the future of education leadership, his legacy serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come. His unwavering dedication to educational equity, learning, innovation, and excellence underscores the transformative potential of visionary leadership in addressing the most pressing challenges facing education today.

  • First appointed on 1 September 2023

    Dan has been working in education for 28 years starting as a design technology teacher but more recently teaching science, engineering, and business studies. He has undertaken many leadership roles including head of year, subject leader, head of faculty and assistant principal. Dan has been part of senior leadership for the last 8 years, working in schools across Kent. Dan has been involved in school improvement and is proud to be part of leadership teams that have taken schools from special measures to good, while improving outcomes for students.

    Dan’s motivation is to ensure all students are provided with a wealth of opportunities so they can have a rewarding and fulfilling life.

    Dan is incredibly proud to be the Principal of Brompton Academy and part of a devoted and passionate team of professionals who are dedicated to ‘Transforming Lives Through Learning’.
